In this role, Ms. Shockney will be responsible for the day-to-day direction of the Association’s activities, as well as driving key initiatives to advance the Association’s mission.

Ms. Shockney is extremely pleased to have been named Program Director, as she says, “I have been a strong supporter of AONN since its inception, and I am known as an advocate for patient navigation and quality cancer survivorship care. This organization is well positioned to serve as the leader for education, networking and supporting oncology navigators to achieve their professional goals while delivering patient-centered care. I feel privileged to be asked to serve as the Program Director.”

Ms. Shockney has been deeply entrenched in improving the care of cancer patients for the past 30 years and is a 2-time cancer survivor. She practices at Johns Hopkins and serves as the Director of Clinical Breast Programs as well as the Director of Cancer Survivorship. She is nationally recognized for her expertise in breast cancer care, overall cancer survivorship care, quality outcomes measurement, and patient advocacy. She received the prestigious title of University Distinguished Service Associate Professor of Breast Cancer by the Board of Trustees and Johns Hopkins University (JHU) Medical Board several years ago. Her faculty appointments within the JHU School of Medicine are in the departments of surgery, oncology, and gynecology.
Ms. Shockney is certified as a breast cancer patient navigator; she also has a joint appointment at the JHU School of Nursing, where she serves as a guest lecturer and distinguished speaker. Additionally, Ms. Shockney is the editor-in-chief of a peer-reviewed journal, Journal of Oncology Navigation & Survivorship®, and has commented on breast cancer topics for national television networks, print, and Internet media. She has received 41 awards for her work in the cancer field, of which 37 are national awards and 4 are state awards.
